Ok, so if you've been on social media anytime since Friday, you have almost certainly seen that tag. You probably know why it exists, too.
If you've been hiding in a cave or camping like I was and didn't have any Internet or news from the outside world, I will update you on life. The Supreme Court of the United States (or SCOTUS) has ruled same-sex marriage legal across the country. As a result, bloggers and other social media users have exploded with RAINBOWS RAINBOWS EVERYWHERE! (the LGBTQ+ ones and allies, anyway)(homophobes are a different story)
Now I've updated cave-hiders on life, I will go on. (yeah, I know the bio says we won't report on current events, but I really can't resist this one)
This is great news! Same-sex couples can now get married in all 50 states (50 States of Gay) and as a result, they're doing so. But too many people think this means the fight for LGBTQ+ rights is over, and they can just sit back and relax. Sadly, they're wrong. Marriage equality is only a first step, and there are many more things that need to be fixed. In too many states, there aren't laws that grant LGBTQ+ people equal protection. Just for getting married to a same-sex partner, people can be fired from their job; just for being somewhere in the LGBTQ+ spectrum, people can be hurt or even killed. This isn't even to mention all of the advancements we need to make in transgender rights.
I'm going to keep this post short because I want to go eat chocolate, but if you want a longer, more in-depth blog post from a less lazy blogger about this same subject, read this one.
